LESSON 1: Lost to Found (Psalm 23:1, 1 Samuel 17:34-37)
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 23:1-3a
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”
FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS:
Who did David say rescued him from the lion and the bear when he was caring for his father’s sheep?
Did God just create the universe and then sit back and watch?
How does Psalm 23:1 comfort us when we feel alone, afraid or sad?
6th GRADE
LESSON 5: INFORMATION ALWAYS COMES FROM AN INTELLIGENT SOURCE
MEMORY VERSE: Colossians 1:16-17 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS
This week, we discussed what other worldviews believe about the start of life. Read each summary.
Naturalism
Naturalists believe that only matter (physical things) is real. They do not believe that there is a god who created everything, because god is spirit, not matter. They think life began accidentally. They believe that the first creatures alive were very small and simple. Eventually, those simple creatures evolved (changed) into sea creatures, which evolved into land creatures, which evolved into humans.
New Spirituality
New spirituality is a bit tricky. Like naturalists, new spiritualists believe life evolved accidentally. However, they also believe that god is in everything and the physical—the things we can see—is not real.
Islam
Because Muslims worship Allah, they believe that He is the creator and He created life purposefully. But they do not believe humans were created in His image.
Postmodernism
Because postmodernists worship community, and many people in charge of our community believe life started accidentally, postmodernists believe life started accidentally.
As a family, thank God for being the Creator and creating you in His image. Pray for those who believe lies about the start of life. Ask that God would soften their hearts and use you to help them see that God is the Creator.
7th - 8TH GRADE
This year for 7th and 8th grade Quest will be delving into Proverbs, exploring how to apply biblical wisdom to everyday life. Our goal is to build a strong relationship with God and make Jesus our anchor as we navigate life.
We Come with Instructions? (Proverbs 3:1-4)
According to verses 1-2 what guides you to a long, healthy, prosperous life?
How can you reconcile in your mind the people who are successful but do not know anything about biblical wisdom?
