LESSON 4: WHAT IS TRUTH?

MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS

This week, we looked at how we figure out if something is True. We discovered that to find Truth we observe the world around us and see if what we observe matches up with God’s Word. This is because God’s Word is our highest authority. If we want to know the Truth, then it is important that we spend time reading God’s Word. You may already spend time as a family reading God’s Word. If you don’t, you should start! Set aside two times this week when you will read God’s Word as a family and discuss it.

7th - 8TH GRADE

LESSON 5: GOD WORKS THROUGH A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY (GENESIS)

MEMORY VERSE: Genesis 1:1-3 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.  The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.”

  • In what kind of situations do we find it easiest to lie?  What do those situations tell us about what our hearts crave?

  • Like Jacob, in what ways does experiencing the presence of God through Christ transform us?

  • What are some common dysfunctions in families?  How can God’s grace through the gospel overcome these?
