LESSON 3: WHAT IS TRUTH?

MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS

This week we looked at what God’s Word teaches us about lies. Look up the following verses together. Discuss what each passage teaches you about lies.

  • John 8:44

  • Genesis 3:1–19

  • Matthew 4:1–11

Ask your family members if anyone has ever believed a lie someone told them. Ask what the result was of believing that lie.

7th - 8TH GRADE

MEMORY VERSE: Genesis 1:1-3 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.  The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.”

Session 3: God Makes a Covenant with Abraham / God Tests Abraham

  • Are faith and love more than just an emotion?  Explain.

  • When have you sensed God testing you?  What did you learn about Him from that experience?  What did you learn about yourself?

  • Like Abraham, we may not know when we are being tested.  In what ways should Abraham’s story impact our obedience?
