KINDER - 4th GRADE
LESSON 2: JACOB’S NEW NAME (Genesis 32-33)
MEMORY VERSE: Genesis 28:15 “Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done I have promised you.” (CSB)
FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS
Tell about a time you were afraid. What did you do?
What was Jacob’s new name?
Have you ever been forgiven by someone? How did you feel?
5TH GRADE
LESSON 1: KNOW YOUR BIBLE, KNOW YOUR GOD
MEMORY VERSE: John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.”
FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS
This week we explored the question “How does knowing the whole story help us understand the Bible?”
Have each family member share the title of their favorite movie. Then discuss how someone might be confused if they only watched random scenes from that movie and never saw the whole thing.
It is the same with the Bible. If we only know a bunch of different stories from the Bible but we have no idea where those stories fit into God’s big story, we may end up very confused about what the Bible is and what God has revealed through it.
As a family, discuss what you already know about the whole story of the Bible.
6th GRADE
LESSON 1: WHAT IS TRUTH?
MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS
This week we discussed what Truth is and why knowing and following the Truth is important.
Have one or two family members share about a time they knew the Truth and how it helped them.
Now have one or two family members share about a time that they didn’t know the Truth about something or decided not to follow True directions and it got them in trouble.
Why is knowing and following the Truth important?
7th - 8TH GRADE
MEMORY VERSE: Genesis 1:1-3 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.”
Session 1: God Creates
How does knowledge of God’s sovereignty over all creation influence the way you think about your circumstances?
Why should we be grieved when we see image-bearers of God living in a way that is contrary to the way God intended?
How will you treat friends, family members, and even strangers differently based upon the truth that they are created in God’s image?
