Home Connection | Week of 8/20

KINDER - 4th GRADE

LESSON 2: A TRANSFORMED MIND
(Romans 12:1-18; 1 Cor. 1:9; Phil. 1:3-7)

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! (NIV)

FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS

  • How does the Holy Ghost change us when we trust in Jesus?

  • How does God want us to treat one another?

  • How does God show love and friendship to us?

5th GRADE

LESSON 2: KNOW YOUR BIBLE, KNOW GOD’S STORY

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

This week we explored the question “How does knowing the whole story help us understand the Bible?”

  • Have each family member share the title of their favorite movie. Then discuss how someone might be confused if they only watched random scenes from that movie and never saw the whole thing.

  • It is the same with the Bible. If we only know a bunch of different stories from the Bible but we have no idea where those stories fit into God’s big story, we may end up very confused about what the Bible is and what God has revealed through it.

  • As a family, discuss what you already know about the whole story of the Bible.

6th GRADE

LESSON 2: WHAT IS TRUTH?

MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.  But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS

This week we looked at what God’s Word teaches us about the Truth. Look up the following verses together and discuss what each verse tells you about the Truth.

  • Psalm 119:160

  • Isaiah 45:18–19

  • John 8:31–32

  • John 14:6

  • John 18:37

  • 1 Timothy 2:3–5

7th - 8TH GRADE

This year for 7th and 8th grade Quest will be delving into Proverbs, exploring how to apply biblical wisdom to everyday life. Our goal is to build a strong relationship with God and make Jesus our anchor as we navigate life.

BOYS: We finished our two-part series on prayer and fasting by examining stories of the Bible where prayer and fasting were pivotal moments in the working out of God’s will.

This week the boys were challenged to find something or someone to pray for. Hopefully getting their eyes off themselves and on God and others.

GIRLS: TREASURY OF WISDOM (Proverbs 1:1-9)

  • What do you do when a government law approves an action as right and fair even though it contradicts the Bible? Can you think of some examples of this?

  • You’ll meet people throughout your life who give the impression they are wise and discerning but who want nothing to do with the Bible. Anticipating such encounters, how might you respond based on what you’ve learned so far?

  • Can a person be both intelligent and foolish at the same time?
