Imagine with me the sound of horses’ hooves echoing through the night and a shout—“The British are coming!” Or the sting of icy air as George Washington crossed the Delaware for a decisive victory. Now picture a hot, crowded room filled with Founding Fathers, passionately debating, desiring the best for their families and the future. Could any of them have imagined what this nation would become, 249 years later? Did they know that people from all over the world would still long to come to this great country to experience the American Dream?

Each of these individuals acted boldly and with courage, knowing that the nation they were trying to build could not stand on their strength alone. It would need God and the Bible as its backbone. Some today may argue that Christianity played no role in America’s founding, but the pursuit of biblical freedom is often woven—even if imperfectly—through our country’s history. The Bible is not silent about how a nation should operate or about the value of every human life.
Today, we celebrate God’s blessing on our country and pray that He will continue to bless it. We also honor all those who came before us and those who even now fight for the freedoms we enjoy—the freedom to speak, to gather in worship, and to protect ourselves and our communities.
Will we continue to fight for freedom? Will we continue to act boldly to preserve it? Let us never forget those who have sacrificed and those we have lost.
Guard your worldview against those who seek to remove God and the Bible from the public square. If they succeed, the freedom we champion today may be lost tomorrow.
Ultimately, while we celebrate and fight for our earthly freedoms, we must remember that true and lasting freedom is found in Jesus Christ.
“Jesus replied, ‘Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.’”
— John 8:34–36 (NIV)
As you celebrate today, remember the reason for our freedom, the foundation of our history, and the responsibility to pass it on to our children and generations to come.
